that's cool and all, but a person with hand tools can plant up to 3,000 seedlings per day. i'd rather just put in a couple of extra days of work and keep more money and get more exercise.

I've used a spade attachment in the past but it's not great on virgin soil. The auger attachment looks much easier. We use augers to bury wood fence posts; I can't believe that I haven't considered using an auger attachment for a drill before now! nice video! I have some john and adams elderberry. This is my first season growing. Any reason my tallest , hardiest elderberry has no berries? It has a super shoot skyrocketing to the moon, but no berries. The shorter, bushier ones are doing best.

Glad you mentioned the “wheelies”. The original gasoline version had the same problem. I spent many hours sitting on the front of my dad’s 1948 model G as a human “weight” to help keep the front end down.

Good idea but make sure you promote biodiversity by planting a diverse range of trees. Monocultures are susceptible to failure

We do it differently, digging a hole for each tree using an auger driven by a skid steer loader. The trees we plant are larger than these. We also lay down mulch by hand. So it takes us about 15 minutes to plant a tree. It’s cool coz we enjoy the process and are only planting around 900. Great video. Thanks.

even fresh green stalks work, at least pencil thickness, take from youngish tree so more vigour, one or two leaf pairs, place stem in water container in shade or moist compost in shade, occasional mist spray on leaves and should get roots 2 to 4 weeks.

Thanks for a proper video showing what to do. Elderberry is a useful plant. The black variety with pink flowers is especially pretty- sambucus nigra. It costs at least £10 for a plant, so do your own cuttings just before spring!

we have been thinking about planting rag weed in paper pots. doing like a rip, then just dropping the paper pot strip in. burying it in leaves or something with some age manure or something like that. ragweed is underutilized. we haven't had rag weed in years since we had the goats first. miss that rag weed lol

So, what happened to the swale, is it working as intended?

I'm trying to understand the anatomy of bud grafting, but no book or website explains this: If the bark and the cambium are lifted out, the cambium would end up on the outside of the bark of the bud that is inserted. How are they supposed to match up and grow if the cambium of the bud cutting is only touching the internal wood of the stock, not the cambium? Thanks.
